William (Bill) Jones was born in Colver, Pennsylvania
on December 18, 1932. He is the third of four children of
his Welsh coal-miner father, Lloyd, and Scottish mother, Elizabeth.
The Jones' moved to Washington, D.C. in 1945. He served in
the U.S. Army Engineers.
Following his discharge from the Army, significant events
happened that changed his life. He became a Christian through
the persistent presentation of the Gospel from a Jewish Christian
friend, Jack Cadeaux. Jack not only introduced Bill to Christ
but also to Nancy Wittenberg who later became his wife on
August 4, 1956. Nancy was born in Syracuse, New York and migrated
to Washington, D.C.
Bill and Nancy added to their family unit by adopting a son,
David, born October 13, 1959. In 1960, Bill graduated from
the District of Columbia Teacher’s College and attended Union
Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He was ordained
in June 1963. On November 19, 1963 their adopted daughter,
Julia, was born.
In addition to his two ministry calls (1966-1975 and 1978-1999)
to Inverness Presbyterian Church, he pastored churches in
Brentsville, Virginia; High Point, North Carolina (Organizing
Pastor); and, Houston, Texas.
In 1970, Pastor Jones led Inverness Presbyterian Church out
of the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS), and
into the Presbyterian Church in America in 1973. In 1984 Bill
received his Doctor of Ministry.
Pastor Jones served on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian
Evangelistic Fellowship for 15 years. Since 1980, he served
as a Teacher/Trainer for Evangelism Explosion and taught EE
Clinics in several cities as well as overseas.
On January 1, 2000, at the age of 67 and after serving 30
years at Inverness Presbyterian Church, Bill retired. Six
months after retirement, he was asked to serve as Pastor of
Evangelism at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland.
He resigned from that position in order to be closer to home
because of his wife’s health.
Since September 2006, Dr. Jones has been serving as interim
pastor of Loch Raven Presbyterian Church.
