July Youth News
Greetings to All!
School is now out and vacations are coming on fast! It
promises to be a full and fun summer. Here at LRPC, we
are hoping to provide many opportunities throughout the
summer for the youth for fellowship, outreach and just
to relax!
One of the ways we hope to maximize reaching
out to our youth is with a very pleasant addition! Laura
Master will be serving with us this summer as our Summer
Youth Worker! She will officially start on Friday, June 25th
and be with us through the summer. She will have 5 primary
responsibilities: (1) To assist at Youth Fellowship every
Friday evening, (2) To organize a small group Bible study
for middle and high school girls (details will be coming!!),
(3) taking youth from church to the “Teen Night” on Tuesday
evenings at Beachmont Christian Camp, (4) To spend
one-on-one-time with the girls who attend our youth events,
and finally (5) To assist in the office in planning and
organizing the summer’s activities. I’ll take a break for a
moment and let Laura introduce herself!
Hello!
As many of you found out a few weeks earlier, I will be
working this summer as the youth intern. Stating my
excitement for this would be rather difficult—the work
God has done in the youth in the past and the seeds He
has planted make me rather enthusiastic to see how
they’re going to grow and flourish this summer. I was
told to give a brief overview of who I was and what I
might be doing—so here’s my attempt to cover it. Over
the past several months I finished up my degree at Hood
College, the Lord continually showed me one particular
aspect of His nature—His relentlessness. It’s an
intoxicating thought that our God chases after us
without giving up, isn’t it? With all our flaws and with
all our baggage, He sees something worth chasing in us
(THANK GOODNESS!).
I have been praying over the past couple
weeks that He would help me to show that quality to
young people... hopefully through all of the Beachmont
trips, Bible studies, Friday night meetings, and various
other summer events, with His help I’ll be able to do
that. Your prayers are most welcome! Thank you and I
hope this month of July isn’t too hot and humid!

I am pleased to report that we just finished studying the
book of Esther and was highlighted by watching the movie,
“One Night with the King”, on Friday, June 18th. What a
powerful book that shows the sovereignty of God, from the
smallest of details to the grand scheme of life’s events.
Also, in May the ladies proved they have the edge on
putting. Congratulations to the youth champion, Jen Quievryn,
and to Kathy Shields, our senior tour champion!
Looking forward into August, we have started
to plan for a camping weekend on Friday, August 6th and
Saturday the 7th. Three campgrounds have been considered,
all within a two hour drive from church. A decision will be
made in the next couple of weeks as to the location and we
will try to reserve 10 to 12 campsites. If you are
interested in attending this weekend, please contact Lynn or
Dan Master, 410-252-4756 or Carol and Brian Sweeney,
410-665-2728, so that we can better plan for this trip. We
should have many activities that youth and families...even
couples of ALL ages and YAG’s...could enjoy! And we would
look forward to a time of fellowship and worship together.
And, one important final note: The Youth
Program is going to be going through some BIG changes in the
next few weeks and months. For quite a while now, there has
been no Youth Committee to offer guidance and support for
the Youth Program. That is more my fault, than anything
else. However, with changes coming to the youth program, NOW
would be an important time to pull together and offer the
support and direction that would strengthen our program, and
the lives of our youth! If you would be interested in
serving on a Youth Committee, I would sincerely welcome the
opportunity to speak with you how you might be able to serve
in this area. Please call me or email me anytime!
In
Christ,
Carol and Brian Sweeney

Our Goals
-
To nurture and develop the youth ministry at LRPC.
-
To provide teaching opportunities for the youth to grow in their knowledge and respect of God and His Word, so that they will be prepared to use their faith and knowledge in everyday life situations.
-
To provide a safe and friendly environment for the youth to join together in fellowship and worship for encouragement and growth in their Christian faith.
-
To use every opportunity to share the truth of the saving grace of the Gospel, to those involved in our youth ministry, to their friends that come to youth events and to the youth in our surrounding community.
-
To disciple youth that have a living relationship with Christ and have demonstrated a knowledge of Scripture as well as shown fruit of the Spirit, in order to develop their spiritual growth and leadership.
-
To seek volunteers who have a gift and desire to be participating leaders serving in LRPC's youth ministry, by helping to disciple the youth in their Christian faith and knowledge.
